The Frazer Acquittal

The hero of this book (29 cents at Thriftko) is John Gregory, a brilliant lawyer haunted by a brutal murder. A man a lot like me, in other words, which is why I think I need a secretary like he has:

Until lately, she had felt she had grown to known this man as well as a devoted secretary should. She knew the size of his clothing from socks to collar, how much of everything to order when he had guests coming for another one of his barbecue suppers, his brother's birthday and his sister-in-law's, the traveling accommodations he preferred, his favorite cocktail lounges in and out of town...But now there was part of him that had become strangely clouded over.
I too am a brooding, virile man of action in need of cocktail lounge reservations and the occasional blowjob under the desk. Right?

Frazer back cover The back of the book sports the logo of the Doubleday Crime Club. It's a great graphic, but I have a little trouble understanding what's going on, exactly. Is the figure composed of letters that spell "DD Crime"? It almost looks like it, but I get lost after the I. Also, why are his legs shapes like the bottom section of a rocket? And what's with the bullets going off in four different directions? I can't help thinking about this kind of stuff. It's the curse of profundity.
