I love me some Golden Books. I have a whole set of the Golden Book Encyclopedias--actually, two copies of most volumes: one to keep, one to cut up. This 1957 Golden Book edition of Sherlock Holmes--I got it at a garage sale for a quarter--is printed on newsprint with that intoxicating cheapness you can only get when ink completely saturates pulp. I would be happier if the drawings weren't so shitty, but only marginally. This is the kind of magic you need to open your heart to, unless of course you have something against happiness.
