Fascination with the 70s seems to be undying, and while I have nothing bad to say about that, since I am as prone as anyone else of my generation to stare in helpless wonder at something like the above mixology guide,
I think it is important to focus our attention on the early 70s, when the Age of Aquarius finally dawned for suburban squares who brought old-fashioned tidiness and tailoring to the counterculture's kaleidoscopic explosion of color. Because this is as good as people ever looked and ever will look. Just look at these people. Maybe they are all screwing their dentists and nannies and getting the clap and living in a spiritual void--they're still floating on an ocean of booze and glamour. People these days--especially men--are afraid of color and texture. Everything is all tastefully muted mustards and olives. God forbid we should drop our guard for a moment and forget to not be fabulous.
