Flaying the croissant
January 13, 2005
Childhood is all about cruelty and surrealism, and only Lewis Carroll ever captured this. So says Camille Paglia.
Cruelty and surrealism. This morning my kindergartner pretended her croissant was a man she was flaying alive. "This is his skin," she said, as she pulled off the top layer. "Ouch," she said, speaking as the croissant man. Pause, examining the now all-white pastry. "I like to eat skin." Pause. "He needs a bandage."
