A friend writes:

This happened at my old job.
      I was working late. I passed the desk of a co-worker who had gone home for the day. On a sudden impulse I picked up her Magic Eight Ball and gave it a shake, asking silently, "Magic Eight Ball, would [co-worker's name] be willing to suck me off?"
      Looking into the little plastic window for the answer, I saw that it wasn't an Eight Ball at all, but a round black vase. The sudden glimpse of unexpected emptiness gave me a moment of intensely shameful self-revelation. As if I were looking into the soulless vacuum of my own skull.
